Model Readiness and Ethical Considerations

How to ensure that your model is ready for production and that it meets all your ethical requirements.

Is Your Model Ready for the Real World?

Before you deploy a model to production, you need to make sure that it's ready for the real world. This means that it not only needs to be accurate, but it also needs to be fair, transparent, and secure.

1. Model Cards

A model card is a short document that provides key information about a model, such as:

  • The model's intended use cases
  • The model's limitations
  • The model's performance metrics
  • The model's fairness and bias metrics

Model cards are a great way to communicate information about your model to stakeholders, such as product managers, lawyers, and ethicists.

2. Ethical Considerations

When you are developing and deploying an ML model, you need to be aware of the potential ethical implications. Some common ethical considerations include:

  • Privacy: Make sure that you are not collecting or using any personally identifiable information (PII) in your model.
  • Transparency: Make sure that you can explain how your model works and why it makes the predictions that it does.
  • Accountability: Make sure that you have a process in place for addressing any issues that may arise with your model.

3. The "People + AI Guidebook"

Google has published a comprehensive guide to human-centered AI called the "People + AI Guidebook". This guidebook provides a set of best practices for designing and building AI systems that are fair, transparent, and accountable.

Exam Tip: You don't need to memorize the entire guidebook, but you should be familiar with the key concepts and principles.
