Lesson 1: Timed Practice Strategy

Master the rhythm of the exam. Learn how to simulate the CCA-F environment with a 60-question, 120-minute practice session and how to build the 'Mental Stamina' required for success.

Module 13: Exam Strategy and Practice

Lesson 1: Timed Practice Strategy

Knowledge is only half the battle. The other half is Stamina and Speed. The CCA-F exam consists of 60 questions in 120 minutes. That means you have exactly 2 minutes per question. This includes reading the scenario, analyzing the trade-offs, and choosing the best architectural and defensive pattern.

In this lesson, we look at how to simulate the "Stress" of the exam before the big day.

1. The "2-Minute Rule"

If you spend 5 minutes on a difficult question in Module 3 (Orchestration), you are "Stealing" time from your favorite topic in Module 12 (Cost).

  • The Move: If you are unsure after 1.5 minutes, Flag the question, pick your best "Vibe" answer, and move on.
  • The CCA-F interface allows you to "Review Flagged Items" at the end. You should aim to have 15-20 minutes of review time remaining.

2. Simulate the Scenarios

The CCA-F is not a vocabulary test. It is a Scenario test.

  • Example Question: "A company needs to reduce costs by 50% without losing the ability to code complex features. Which pattern should they use?"

When you practice, don't just memorize definitions. Act out the scenarios. Imagine you are the consultant in the room.

3. The "No-Cheat" Simulation

During your practice sessions:

  • No Google.
  • No ChatGPT/Claude.
  • No Notes.

The actual exam is a "Proctored Environment." If you rely on your notes during practice, you will "Panic-Freeze" during the exam when the notes are gone.

4. Visualizing the Time Distribution

graph TD
    A[Total: 120 Minutes] --> B[First Pass: 90 Minutes]
    A --> C[Review Flagged: 20 Minutes]
    A --> D[Final Submission: 10 Minutes]
    B --> B1[60 Questions @ 1.5 mins each]
    Note right of B: Never get stuck on one question

5. Summary

  • Stamina is built by doing full 60-question sets.
  • Speed is managed by the "2-Minute Rule."
  • Simulation must be "Closed-Book."

In the next lesson, we look at the specific mechanics of the clock: Managing Time Per Question.

Interactive Quiz

  1. How many questions are on the CCA-F exam?
  2. What is the "2-Minute Rule"?
  3. Why is "Flagging" a question better than "Getting Stuck"?
  4. Scenario: You have finished 30 questions but only have 40 minutes left. What should you do for the remaining 30 questions? (Hint: See Lesson 2!)
